Day 5 Self-Worth Week: Sarah K on Books with Good Vibes

HEY Y'ALL, HEEEY.

I hope you've been enjoying all the good vibes that have made their way onto my blog this week. I've so very much enjoyed having all these lovely folks making themselves comfortable on my little place in the giant blogosphere.

SO TODAY we have the lovely Sarah from her adorable blog called The YA Book Traveler. Enjoy the recommendations!

Thanks Jackie for having me on your blog for Self-Worth Week! My name is Sarah and I blog over at The YA Book Traveler Blog where you'll find mostly posts about fantasy books (it is my obsession).

For Self-Worth Week, I really got thinking about which books I've read recently that would fit into this category. I think we all at some point in our lives need a little encouragement. Life can be brutal, obnoxious and straight up cruel and we need others around us to pick us back up after when we fall.

Here are a few books I recommend and why:

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

Not Fitting In! You are not alone!

In life many of us have a time where we feel like we don't fit in. Whether it's with our families, friends, work,  or school. We stand by while others give us looks across the room or know they're talking about us. These are terrible times. Echo, our main character, is a runaway. She ran away from a very abusive family at the young age of 7 and was found by an Avicen women, a birdlike race of people. She comes to live with them but only a few really accept her. She's grown up with many people putting up with her but never "really" fitting in because she's only human.

I have found over the years that we believe the lie that we're alone in this and that other people don't struggle loneliness. But the thing is, we all do. And when we can be open and honest with those around us, we'll discover we're not the only ones who feel this way.

Just like Echo, from The Girl at Midnight, she ended up surrounding herself around group of people that may look like misfits but they all needed each other even, or especially, when they felt different.

The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

Good Friends are Necessary!

We were never meant to do life on our own. We can't have  party on our own, we can't play basketball on our own, we can't do many things in life alone...but sometimes we feel that way. When I was in college, I had a pretty big falling out with my previous high school friends and this is never fun. Luckily I had made better friends in college who loved who I was as a person. We need positive people in our lives who can encourage us to keep going when we're down, wipe our tears, laugh when times are good and swoon with us over cute boys. ;)

The Revenge Playbook is such an amazing book about friendships, some new and some reconciled. The high school football team has caused each of these girls hurt in different ways and they band together to try to humiliate them in an act of revenge. The girls in this book all have something difficult in their lives that they're struggling to deal with on their own. From this turn of events that places these girls together they are able to bond together toward a goal that not only achieves what they set out to do, but grew friendships that healed hearts.

Friendships get messy. We may find amazing new friends or have falling outs. Even if you've been hurt over the years, don't harden your heart to making new friends. Friends do life with us. And you may be surprised at how much healing you'll gain.

In Conclusion:
I do hope we can all reach out to other people today. Our value is not determined by what others think of us, but rather we should be secure in knowing we are all beautiful, unique and have gifts and talents that can change the world. But when we have others who can rally around us it does makes all the difference.
